H.A.I.R.U: Homebound Artificial Intelligence Reciprocity Unit

Science Fiction Novella

An employee at a struggling artificial intelligence startup watches his company fail to gain market share against corporate giants. While others panic, he sees opportunity. His company needs to meet an unmet need – and he knows exactly what that is.

As AI anxiety spreads and critics warn of mass unemployment, politicians threaten regulation and taxation of artificial intelligence. Government control of innovation. Redistribution of wealth. Everything that stifles the free market principles he holds sacred. He sees another way.

If artificial intelligence will destroy jobs and eliminate customers, then AI can solve that problem too. Enter H.A.I.R.U.s – Homebound Artificial Intelligence Reciprocity Units – an AI creation that automates both jobs and consumers to maintain economic demand as human workers become obsolete.

His innovation brings everything he's ever dreamed of: wealth, power, and the satisfaction of being the savior of the free market. As H.A.I.R.U.s spread across the nation, he becomes the architect of a new economic order.

But preserving this new prosperity is challenging. Millions join nomadic clans of the displaced and society must be reshaped in order to prevent popular rebellion. The world stratifies into the essential and the expendable, the powerful and the powerless. As he leads the effort to remake civilization around his creation, he discovers that nobody is immune from the consequences of his innovation.

THE PASSING FRACTURE

Science Fiction Novella

The Passing Fracture is a gripping science fiction novella that delves into a world where an inexplicable phenomenon has divided humanity into two temporal groups—those who live at normal speed and those who accelerate through life at a heightened pace. Emily and Ulysses Weber, part of the "Slows," find themselves trapped in a society where the "Quicks" hold all the power, controlling the government, economy, and even the fate of their loved ones. As their young son is taken from them due to their inability to keep up, they struggle with the emotional and existential challenges of living in a world where time itself has become a tool of oppression.

Through its heart-wrenching narrative, The Passing Fracture offers a powerful commentary on the growing divides in modern society and the ways in which the powerful often marginalize those deemed less valuable. The Webers’ story highlights the emotional toll of these divides, as they grapple with the loss of their son, the erosion of their relationship, and the constant struggle to maintain their humanity in a world that increasingly views them as obsolete. It challenges readers to consider how we value time, relationships, and the lives of others, offering a thought-provoking reflection on the social issues that shape our world today.
